Ceuta is inside the path of totality, so the eclipse is visible from anywhere in the municipality with a clear sky. Three strategies that work

  • The beach: a clean sea horizon, plenty of space, and the chance to watch the Moon's shadow racing towards you across the water, which is among the most striking parts of the whole event.
  • High ground: a hill or viewpoint above any low cloud layer, with a wide view of the landscape darkening.
  • The quiet spot: any accessible open ground away from the famous location. It looks exactly the same and you leave without a jam.

The mistake of chasing the centreline

Many people fixate on reaching the exact centre to gain a few seconds. It is rarely worth it: the difference between the centreline and ten kilometres off is usually a handful of seconds, while the risk of being caught in traffic and losing everything is real. Pick a comfortable, well-connected spot inside the path and stay there.

What you do not need

You do not need a telescope or binoculars: totality looks better with the naked eye, because the corona is large and an instrument crops it. You do not need to arrive at dawn to claim the best viewpoint; you need to arrive with margin somewhere reasonable. And you do not need altitude: duration is set by your distance from the centre of the path, not by how high you stand.
